A lot of people who have a real wood burning fireplace may notice that they are not getting as much heat to the rest of the house as they would like. While it may be extremely nice sitting right front of the fireplace, to truly save money on gas heating costs, there needs to be more heat being transferred into the rest of the house. Without that, the homeowner is not really going to save a lot of money on their gas bills. That is unless they add a fireplace fan into the mix.

A fireplace fan is the perfect way to get heat to the adjoining rooms. It helps to get the heat transferred fast and in an efficient way. As long as you go with a good brand and a high quality machine, you should have no noticeable sound coming from the fireplace fan. By adding one of these little machines into the mix, the homeowner is sure to finally start saving the fuel costs that they were trying to save in the first place. Without a fireplace fan, you might as well be throwing money out the window because it seems that your heat is not sticking around very long.

Where To Shop

It seems that the Internet is the easiest and fastest way to find a big selection when it comes to a fireplace fan. Although there is going to be a shipping price, with the cost of gasoline and the time you would spend searching different stores, it is well worth it. Make sure that you are going with a good online store though and make sure that you compare prices on the same model in other online stores to make sure that you are not being ripped off and that you are getting the best deal possible in terms of price and shipping costs.

The fireplace fan is easy to install and in no time you will be noticing the difference that it will make. And if it breaks, there should have been warranty information that originally came with it so take advantage of that. A fireplace fan should last you a good few years and it is very much worth every penny that you put into purchasing it. So go ahead and start your search now so that the rest of your home can begin to get a little warmer for those cool evenings and late nights.

It is a shame that too many people forget to purchase or put up a fireplace grate. Even if you do not have any animals or children in the home, adults can still have accidents too and that fireplace grate could someday save someone and something from a lot of painful burns. The basic fireplace grate is not costly by any means whatsoever so there is never a reason to not have one. The basic rule of thumb should be that you cannot run a fireplace with a properly installed fireplace grate.

Even beyond the fact that it is meant to keep people, animals, and objects safe from the fire, it is needed for the fireplace to have a completed look. If a person cannot be convinced that they need a fireplace grate for their safety, then let us try to explain the need of it for decoration purposes. A fireplace grate is not that costly at all because even though they can run in prices up to several hundred dollars, you can often find them much cheaper than that. And even if not, the investment is well worth it in the end.

Where To Buy Them

A lot of your basic department stores and home improvement centers are starting to stock up on items for fireplaces such as the much needed fireplace grate. These are generally the places that you will find the best deal for a brand new fireplace grate. But if price is not a problem and you want something a little more special, then you may find yourself on the Internet searching for the fireplace grate that will match your taste and the style of your room. There will be a shipment charge but if you are getting exactly what you want, it is well worth it in the end because you should only pay for what you really like.

Also, if money is really tight or you like the idea of something used because it will work better with your décor, you should check out your area’s local flea markets and yard sales. Even during winter months, there are often a lot of indoor flea markets around that you can visit. If you look around, you are bound to find something that will fit your taste and your budget all at the same time. No matter what it takes, if you have a running fireplace, you must invest in a fireplace grate.

With the upheaval and uncertainty in the home mortgage lending business, more and more homeowners are deciding to stay put for awhile. No one wants to sell their house at a loss, and homeowners who can wait out the housing crunch prefer to wait it out rather than to lose money and sell now.

Gas Crunch Means Staying In

Converging with the trend of keeping a home longer before selling it is the trend of rising gasoline prices. High gas prices mean more and more families are staying at home instead of going out on weekend vacation trips or weeknight evenings away from home.

Staying In Means Remodeling

Spending all that time at home makes homeowners look at their residences with a new eye. Suddenly, worn surfaces seem shabby, and outdated looks need to be updated. The more time a homeowner spends at home, looking at their house, the more they will want to remodel or redecorate.

Redoing The Fireplace Hearth

A fireplace refacing project is one of the best investments you can make in your home. Updating brick or plain tile to stone or custom tile can give you a huge bang for your buck. Not only that, but most fireplaces are located in open areas of the home that a lot of people see. By replacing your fireplace surround and hearth, you are changing an area that will get a lot of attention, as the fireplace is also often the focal point of the room.

Fireplace Hearth Choices

Any time you are dealing with a fireplace surround and hearth, you will need to check your local building code to see what the regulations are for fireboxes in your local area. Obviously, the purpose of a fireplace hearth is to protect your flooring and home from live sparks and embers. Therefore, your fireplace hearth must be constructed of fireproof material, and it must be a minimum size which will be dictated by your local building code.

Other than these two requirements fireproof material, and minimum size your imagination is your limit when it comes to planning a new fireplace hearth.

Matching the Hearth To The Surround

Matching the fireplace hearth to the surround is not always a good idea. Marble, for example, is a fragile, brittle stone that is perfectly suited for light duty vertical surfaces, like a fireplace surround. However, marble stone may be too fragile for a horizontal hearth that will have to bear foot traffic, hold firewood and fire tools, and so forth.

There are a lot of people starting to run their fireplaces during the winter to save on their gas bill. This is generally a great thing as long as they remember to be safe but some people are noticing that they are not getting the heat that they feel they should be receiving out of their wood burning fireplaces. In fact, many people claim that rooms are becoming colder than normal and that the only way to be warm is to sit in front of the fireplace. This leaves people wondering how other houses get that toasty warm feeling throughout because of the fireplaces set in place.

The answer is both simple and complicated all at the same time. If you are experiencing that extra coldness in other rooms when you have your open wood burning fireplace running, you simply need a fireplace heat exchanger. That is the simple part of the answer but the more complicated part is understanding exactly why you need it because to purchase a fireplace heat exchanger, you are going to spend somewhere around five hundred dollars. Also, you will need to purchase a set of nice glass doors or that five hundred for the fireplace heat exchanger will just be wasted.

Why You Need One

The fact is, when you are dealing with a wood burning fireplace that is open, the fire will consume a lot of the extra air in the house that was already heated to the current temperature of the room. If the fireplace is taking up that air, it will replace it, but it will be with cold air from the outside. This is why a lot of people complain that their house is actually colder when they are burning a fire in their open fireplace. All they really need is a fireplace heat exchanger to solve the problem.

When you install a fireplace heat exchanger with a set of glass doors, you will eliminate that cold air in the rest of the house. A fireplace heat exchanger is a must have with any open wood burning fireplace and yet so many people go without them because they just do not know any better. In the end, they end up staying cold or wasting more time and money trying to heat a house that is always being hit with cold air from the outside. Without a fireplace heat exchanger, the homeowner is basically fighting a never-ending battle, and one that they will never win.

Although there are a lot of websites and stores selling the entire fireplace kit, you may not be in the market for that for one of two reasons. You either already have an existing fireplace structure that can be used for fireplace inserts or you plan on building one yourself. Either way, it is important to know that there are fireplace inserts that can be purchased to fit your individual needs and they are very easy to install as long as you follow the instructions. Also, it is important to make sure that you are taking your time so that you do not mess it up and have to start all over.

Fireplace inserts come in three different varieties so this means that you will have a better chance at finding what would be best for your home. There are the gas fireplace inserts which run off of the natural gas line that is probably already in your home. These are great for those who want something natural and are not worried about cutting down on their heating bill. Then there are the electric fireplace inserts and the real flame fireplace inserts that can be purchased. Either one of those will help cut the costs of your heating bill while keeping you warm.

Shopping Time

Now that you know what it is that you would like to get for your home, it is time to start shopping around for the best deal on fireplace inserts. A lot more stores are starting to carry these so you may find exactly what you are looking for there. This would be great as you will normally end up with the best price and you will not be faced with having to pay any shipping fees. The shipping fees can sometimes be pretty expensive depending upon the website you buy from.

But if your local stores are not carrying any fireplace inserts, then you will have no choice but to purchase one online. Just be careful to make sure that you are making your purchase from a secure website so your personal information is not stolen. Also, even if you think you found what you want, keep shopping around to make sure that you are getting the best deal possible. Unless you are really tight on time you should try avoiding the express shipping, as it can sometimes be a waste of money because standard shipping does not always take as long as they claim. They could just be trying to get more money out of you.

Besides the stone, brick, or slate work that is the base, or core, of your fireplace, fireplace mantles play a big role in the look of the entire structure. There are basically two types of fireplace mantles when you truly think about it. There are the mantels that are one big piece, which consists of the top flat area and it stretches down the front of the fireplace. Then there are the fireplaces that are stone or brick all the way up and the fireplace mantles are just the top flat part, which lifts right off from the rest.

Either way, you are looking at parts that can be removed if the need ever came about. These can sometimes be in need of repair after years of being used or even just simply replaced. And maybe they are in fine shape but you are wanting a different look. Replacing fireplace mantles are an easy fix to that situation. With a few hours of work, you could completely transform a room. All of this because of one slight adjustment and a little bit of time and effort put into a project.

Purchasing Fireplace Mantels

Believe it or not, there are several different sizes of fireplaces within homes so it is important to know exactly what it is you are needing. This is especially true if you are ordering fireplace mantles online and having them shipped to your door. The last thing you want is to end up with something too big or too small because then you will have the mess of trying to ship it back so be careful. It could be an awful sight trying to return three or so fireplace mantles.

You could always search the phonebook or the Internet for places near you that sell fireplace mantles so you can go look at them in person. This may help you in determining which style you would like to go with. Also, you will save yourself a lot of money in shipping charges. Then again, there is always the other option of not purchasing fireplace mantles at all. If you or someone you know is crafty, then you could always design and build fireplace mantles of your own. This is an excellent way to put a little bit of your heart and your own style into your home. This was the way it used to be done and it can surely be done again.

As with anything that you have in your home, you need to make sure that you have all of the right fireplace tools to make your experience with it more fun and easier. Also, this is the best way to make sure that you remain safe while dealing with the fire and some of the fireplace tools such as the gate that goes across the front to help keep everyone such as animals and children safe from harm. Not to mention, fireplace tools can come in a wide variety of styles and designs and can serve not only as functional pieces but as decorations too.

If you have a fireplace you need fireplace tools, as there is just no way around it. Not having the proper fireplace tools in place is not only a hazard but it also looks a little out of place. Everyone is used to seeing these sitting right next to the fireplace. It adds that little bit of a finishing touch, which pulls it all together. So whether you are someone who uses their fireplace everyday or just once or twice a year, you need to have all of the properly working fireplace tools.

Where To Buy Them

Just about everywhere you look there are fireplace tools for sale and you will often have a wide variety of styles to pick from. Depending on your taste and your budget, you can find fireplace tools ranging in price from fifty dollars to several hundred dollars for a set. The investment is a wise one and one that is well worth it, as you cannot have a fireplace without a set of fireplace tools. Make sure you consider the overall theme and style of the room that the fireplace is in so that you are picking the right style.

Make sure you keep an eye open at your local department stores or even your local home improvement stores as these are the most common places to find fireplace tools for sale. If you do not like the selection there or are looking for something different than what everyone else will have, there are other options. You could always check out some auction sites as you can often get a bigger selection there and maybe even something that is used if you like the worn-in look. Either way, no matter where you go, make sure you get all the fireplace tools that you need so that everything matches in color and style.

When most people start thinking about everything they need for their fireplaces, they tend not to think a lot about such things as a fireplace vacuum. In fact, most people do not even know there is such a thing on the market as most people either use a broom or their regular household vacuum. But when wanting to clean your fireplace the best you can, there are a lot of things to really consider. And after all is said and done, you may find that you really could use a fireplace vacuum in your home.

To get the best fireplace vacuum, you will want to make sure it is at least a good size motor so it can really get all the ashes into the bag. Also, you want to make sure that the fireplace vacuum that you are looking at comes with filtered bags so that the ash particles do not end up back into the air and into your lungs. There are several different brands that offer nice compact styles but whichever style you go with, make sure that the fireplace vacuum has a long enough hose and wand with it. And just a word of advice, you should never try vacuuming up hot ashes as you could ruin the fireplace vacuum and possibly set something on fire.

Where To Purchase Them

A lot of times, it is going to be hard to find a fireplace vacuum in the department stores, and even the home improvement stores. This is probably the reason why so many people do not even know that there is such a thing as a fireplace vacuum. So once you are ready to purchase one, you are going to have to head to the Internet as there are a ton of websites that are offering these for sale. Read over the descriptions carefully and read up on what kind of warranty is offered with it to make sure you are getting the best deal.

All in all, not considering the shipping expense, you are probably looking at spending a good two hundred dollars or so for a decent running fireplace vacuum. Any cheaper and you may not be happy with the results that you get from it. There is no need to go much higher in price because it can only get so good when it comes to these types of products. Pay attention to shipping prices though because some sites will offer shipping discounts for purchases over a certain dollar amount. This could save you a lot of money when it comes time to checkout and every bit helps.

If you already have natural gas running into your home and are looking for a way to add just a little more comfort to your living room or bedroom, then you should strongly consider the purchase of a gas fireplace. The gas fireplace uses the gas line that is already in your home to produce flame and heat which could give the room extra warmth and a good center piece to look at.

The gas fireplace can come in many different styles if you do not already have a pre-existing fireplace structure set up. You can pick from block, stone, slate, brick, and wood so there should be no problem in finding something to match the look and feel of the room that it is going into. If you already have a structure available, that is even better as you can get a gas fireplace insert at a much cheaper price. These gas fireplace inserts are very easy to install and take no time at all.

Needing Help

Being that you will be dealing with a gas line, if you are not experienced in this type of work you should be contacting a professional. Gas lines are not something to mess with if you do not have the proper knowledge to back you up. It is much better and safer to have someone professional come in to do the work. There are many companies listed in the phone book that can come out and give you a free estimate on how much it is going to take. Of course, the more work and preparation you can do yourself, the less it will cost for them to finish up.

In the end, whether you had to call someone else in to help or you had the knowledge to do it yourself, you will be pleased with the final product. It is worth every penny and you will always be reminded of that whenever you turn it on. Just snuggle on the couch and grab that remote, not the television remote, but the remote for your gas fireplace as they now come with those as well. Sit back and relax in what true comfort really is because after all, that is what a home is supposed to do for you. It is your retreat to unwind in and to hide from the world’s troubles and suffering. With your new gas fireplace, that will be much easier now.

There is a lot to love about fireplaces since they bring us so much warmth and comfort. It is hard to imagine a cold winters night without being snuggled up in front of one. Well, even cool summer nights are fun in front of the inviting fireplace. But what if you do not have one in your home at all? Then you should think about purchasing or building one as it will add a great deal of appeal to your home’s overall appearance and style. This is an investment that could have an excellent turn around for you in the end.

Knowing how to build a fireplace is important though if you are going to attempt it yourself. Also, knowing a little something about cutting and laying brick is important if it is a brick fireplace you want. Or you could always go for a wood fireplace mantel, but you would still need a different material such as brick on the inside because of flames. Even the ventless propane fireplaces will need bricks in the layout. So if you have never done this type of project before, make sure you learn how to build a fireplace before you are in the middle of it all.

Getting Assistance

If you have never tackled a project like this before, you must seek help so that you don’t get hurt and you do not waste money on materials that get messed up due to lack of experience. Knowing someone like a friend or a family member who knows how to build a fireplace is a great start. This is because the friend or family member will more than likely help you out for free instead of charging you like a professional would. Then again, sometimes it is worth the money of having a professional come in.

If that is not an option though and you are simply stern on not hiring outside help, then you need to make sure to read up on some books and Internet articles about how to build a fireplace. Start with the Internet as there is a ton of information just waiting to be read and you may even luck out with finding some clear cut instructions and even blueprints for learning how to build a fireplace. In the end, the time and effort you put into researching the project will pay off and show through the quality of work that you produce.

Although we may have grown up around fireplaces when we were younger, if you have not used one in a few years, you must read up on how to properly care for one. Knowing how to use a fireplace correctly is essential in making sure that your safety and the safety of other people in the home is taken care of. Even though it seems so simple, there is a lot to learn because if you miss even one small thing, it could turn into something big. A small mistake could mean one big mess or one big fire.

You should always keep young children away from fireplaces and only the older children should learn how to use a fireplace and how to tend to it. And even at their ages, they will still need supervision as they are still children and may be more prone to making mistakes. Since this is fire we are dealing with, you do not want to take any chances. Also, by knowing how to use a fireplace, older children may be able to spot danger if an adult is not in the room and will be able to either fix the problem or alert someone else.

Finding Good Tips

The best advice is always that of hands on instruction but that may not always be available for those wanting to learn how to use a fireplace. If you are alone in your adventure then the next best thing is to start reading about it. Make sure that you read every book you can on how to use a fireplace so that you will not make any costly mistakes and you can later pass this knowledge on to someone else like your friends or your children. And then they in turn can share that knowledge with more people making everyone just a little safer.

The Internet is a great place to learn how to use a fireplace, as there will be everything from clear-cut instructions to tips and advice from homeowners who learned from their own mistakes. Do not be ashamed to ask for help as the only shame you should feel is the shame that would come with not protecting yourself and your family from a dangerous fire. But once controlled and kept controlled, a fireplace can be a wonderful spot to make new memories. Keep it safe and keep it clean and you will be able to enjoy that fireplace for many years to come.

Majestic Fireplace Built In North America

When you buy a Majestic fireplace, you are investing in a Canadian company that has several North American manufacturing facilities. These details are increasingly important to consumers who seek out quality products that don’t bear a “made in China” mark.

Majestic Fireplaces makes a wide variety of fireplaces, including vent-free gas fireplaces, direct-vent gas fireplaces, wood fireplaces, and electric fireplaces.

Vent-Free Gas Fireplaces

These Majestic Fireplaces products are marketed under the brand name, “Vermont Castings.” Imagine a free-standing fireplace that is not much bigger than a TV cart with a television on top. Instead of just a mantel to decorate, you have a large horizontal surface to decorate, and that large space is the top of your fireplace.

Vent-free gas fireplaces can be installed in the center of a dwelling, without access to an exterior wall. Fireplaces with two and three see-through sides make the fireplace a focal point like never before. Decorative hoods are available for residents who want their fireplace to look like a wood burning unit with a chimney.

Vent-free gas fireplaces from Majestic Fireplaces are also available with optional fireplace blowers, to increase the energy efficiency of your home and heat your living space with your vent-free gas fireplace.

Direct Vent Gas Fireplaces

A Majestic Fireplaces direct vent gas fireplace is considerably larger than a vent-free fireplace, because the heat can safely be vented away from the firebox. Flexible venting systems permit the fireplace to be installed nearly anywhere in the house, and not necessarily against an exterior wall.

A direct vent fireplace can be vented up to 20 feet away from the firebox through a side wall. If you prefer a roof vent, the fireplace can be vented vertically for up to 40 feet. The fireplace can even be vented from below grade, making it perfect for a basement.

With lava rock, an authentic log grate, and up to eight gas logs, a direct vent gas fireplace from Majestic Fireplaces will give your room the look and feel of a wood fire with all the convenience of gas.

Natural Vent Gas Fireplace

This Majestic Fireplaces product is perfect for the homeowner who wants to replace their existing wood burning fireplace with a clean gas fireplace. Majestic offers a wide array of natural vent gas fireplaces in a variety of widths and decorating styles.

A lot of people are starting to like the idea of having a fireplace in their home or even a few of them. Fireplaces not only help on heating costs but they are pleasant to look at and become a nice focal point for a room. They can quickly and easily spice up any room they are in and are places to set some photos or decorations on. Maybe even a nice plant or two as it is really up to the homeowner. Many people are finding that having a fireplace or two is well worth the money they invest into them.

But because of the way a lot of people like to decorate their homes, the old fashioned looking fireplaces are no longer appealing to most people. For the general public, the modern fireplace is what is most preferred. The modern fireplace adds that same touch of class but in a slightly different package is all. When the people who are used to the old fashioned fireplaces think of a modern fireplace, they believe they would not like it. But once it is seen in person, most people tend to change their minds and begin to see themselves owning their very own modern fireplace.

Installing The Safe Way

If you want to install a gas or electric modern fireplace and have never done it before, it may be well worth your safety to call in a professional. Having someone experienced do the work will ensure that there are no problems down the line. After all, gas and electric are no fun to mess with if you are unsure of yourself. If you are purchasing a real flame modern fireplace that uses the gel cans, then you can assemble that yourself and get it started in no time. Also, those are typically portable so you can also move them from room to room all by yourself.

Also, make sure that whatever work or prep work you do yourself, you are taking your time with. It has been said that your work is only as good as your preparation stage and that holds true when installing or putting together a modern fireplace. Take your time and read the instructions so that you will get a lot of good use out of your new modern fireplace. You and your family will enjoy and appreciate the time and effort that went into the project and all of the money you put into it for them.

When it comes to wanting to bring a little bit of the comfort of your fireplace outdoors, there are several ways to pull together a nice and inexpensive outdoor fireplace. Based on your personal needs and style is what will determine the actual cost of constructing one of these but they should not be too far out of budget for most people. An outdoor fireplace is an excellent way to share fun times with friends and family.

These are often made the focal point in many yards and landscaping because of the nice designs that can be put together. With a little bit of work and style, you can have an outdoor fireplace that is the envy of the neighborhood. Just get your supplies ready but before you begin any sort of work, make sure that you are checking with your town for any permit that may be needed. Also, you want to double check if they have any size restrictions before you build something too large. The last thing you would want would be to have to rip it apart just to build it smaller in size.

Design Ideas

Unless you have built an outdoor fireplace before, you may be at a loss as far as how it should all come together. But then again, maybe you have spent a lot of time in front of fireplaces that you like in the yards of other people. You could possibly go off of memory based on what you have seen before but if you feel uncomfortable with that, it would be better to have a game plan set up instead for building your outdoor fireplace. At least you have something to fall back on if things start to get a little confusing and hectic.

If you are looking for new ideas or something a little different than what you have seen before in an outdoor fireplace, you could start by searching the Internet. The Internet is full of different design ideas that would be just perfect for your very own outdoor fireplace. Your fireplace does not have to look like what everyone else has so feel free to take a basic design that you like and give it a little twist to make it your very own piece of artwork. In the end, you will be extremely happy with what you have been able to pull together and your friends and family will love it too.

It is pretty easy to say that almost everyone loves the look of a fireplace in a living room or in a bedroom, whether or not they make a lot of use of it. It is a great piece to have as it ties the room together and adds an overall sense of warmth to the room. Also, it is fun to decorate and hang holiday stockings from so fireplaces make sense for families for many different reasons. But the reasons why many people do not use their fireplaces is because they are afraid of actual fire from burning wood or they do not want to deal with the mess of clean up.

There are also the people who live in homes that do not already have any fireplaces. These reasons are excellent reasons for owning a real flame fireplace. A real flame fireplace can be purchased in some stores and in a lot of online websites. Depending upon the size and design of the real flame fireplace you want, you are looking at spending anywhere from four hundred dollars to a couple thousand dollars. Even at the low end of the price range, the real flame fireplace is made to look like it has always been apart of your home. Hardly anyone will be able to tell the difference, which is a nice bonus.

How They Work

These units are generally portable which means once the real flame fireplace is against your living room wall, it is not stuck there. All you need is a screwdriver and you will have the real flame fireplace up and running in minutes. The flames that come up are not toxic as they come from a gel that is a grain-alcohol gel. With the real flame fireplace, you will never have to deal with fumes, smoke, soot, or messy cleanup. You simply place the gel cans down behind the ceramic logs. The logs are designed to look real and with the gel can right behind the logs burning, it gives the effect that the logs are burning.

The fact that the real flame fireplace can be moved around gives someone a lot of flexibility. There is no chimney required for it to run and the gel is environmentally safe. There is no reason why someone should pass up a real flame fireplace if they want the look of a natural burning fire for those cozy and relaxing nights at home. For a small investment of a few hundred dollars, you will be adding tremendous value to the look of the lucky room that gets the real flame fireplace.

There is a lot to be said about having stone fireplaces throughout the inside or outside of a home. Maybe even in some places, the owners would like to have stone fireplaces on both the inside and outside. This would allow a running theme throughout and tie everything together. Stone fireplaces, no matter where they are located, give off a sense of worth, as they are one of the highest quality fireplaces. It also helps to bring a little bit of nature indoors. People often say how their stone fireplaces hold up so much better because they can take much more wear and do not show signs of aging fast.

If you currently have brick fireplaces in your home and would like to upgrade them to stone fireplaces, it is really simple but if you do not have much experience with fireplaces, then you should probably leave it up to the professionals. The last thing you want is to spend all that money on materials and supplies only to make it look unfinished or poorly constructed. Calling in someone who is experienced does not always have to cost a lot of money but make sure that you shop around to get the deal that you want and need.

Who To Call

If you know someone who has stone fireplaces in their home, it is always a good idea to ask them who did the work. Getting referrals is an excellent way to make sure that you are going with a company that you can trust. Although accidents always happen, knowing that they did a good job on a fireplace, means there is a good chance they will do the same for your stone fireplaces. This is always better then cold calling from the phone book not knowing what type of work you will actually have in the end.

Worse case, you do not have any referrals, then you have to call companies you do not know. Have a few different companies come out to give a price and time line for completion of the stone fireplaces. Trust your gut when it comes to picking contractors and try to remember you do sometimes get what you pay for. This means you should not pick a company just based on their prices as there may be a reason they are several hundred dollars cheaper than everyone else. Make sure that you do not pay them all of the money until the stone fireplaces are in place and you are satisfied with the work.

When most people hear about fireplace surrounds, they may automatically think about the gate that protects you from the fire. But while that is a good guess, that is not what fireplace surrounds are. Even though people may not know the term by heart, they surely know what it is as every fireplace has one, or may I say, every fireplace should have one of these. It is not very common to see a fireplace without even the smallest of fireplace surrounds.

Fireplace surrounds can be made of a lot of different materials and can be placed to match or to compliment the fireplace. You can find fireplace surrounds in tile, brick, slate, and stone and you can find these in a variety of colors. The fireplace surrounds are then placed on the floor in front of the fireplace and right up against it. They can be laid in perfect angles or end with more of a round shape on the ends. Now that it has been described a little better, a lot more people are starting to remember what fireplace surrounds are and may now remember the term.

Where To Purchase

A lot of different materials for your fireplace surrounds can be purchased from online stores that specialize in this type of item. You get to pick the type of material you want to work with and the style and they will have it all shipped out directly to your front door. Besides paying for the shipping price though, you may end up paying a little extra from these sites because they are specialty shops. If you want the biggest selection though, this is where you have to go as your local shops will probably not carry as much as they do.

But if price is more of your concern then you can probably find a lot of the materials right in your town at home improvement stores or your local stone supply warehouse. You will not find as much of a selection but there will still be plenty to pick from. And you will not only be saving yourself money on the product itself, but you will also not have to worry about shipping charges. The amount you would be purchasing for fireplace surrounds is small enough to fit in your car. When doing a house full of projects, it is always worth trying to do everything possible to save a little bit of money so you can do more work.

Whether you are just building your fireplace, installing a gas or electric one, or rolling in a real flame fireplace, you are going to need the proper fireplace supplies to run it properly. Of course, with the real flame fireplace, you probably will never make real use out of the fireplace supplies such as the tools, but since you are probably going for a look of a real fireplace, you will want real fireplace supplies to go along with it. This will help pull off the look that you are trying to go for.

Having the proper fireplace supplies before you even get started is best so that you do not run into any situations where you are stuck unprepared. Having everything purchased and right there with you will make sure that your adventures with your fireplace will be fun, rewarding, and most importantly, safe. Proper fireplace supplies do not have to cost a lot of money but of course as with everything, there are different styles to pick from. Different brands and different styles will vary in price but if you are on a tight budget, you can pick up some fireplace supplies at a decent price.

Where To Purchase Them

A lot of places such as local department stores are starting to carry a lot of fireplace tools and fireplace supplies. Some even are starting to carry the electric and real flame fireplaces. So you are more than likely going to be able to find what you need there at an affordable price. Also, do not forget to check out a few different home improvement stores as they have a lot of nice fireplace supplies but they may run a little more then what you would find in your regular department stores.

If money is an issue, there is always the option of hitting some yard sales or looking in the local paper for people selling their fireplace supplies. As long as the supplies are still in good shape, there is nothing wrong with going used. Also, there are a lot of online sites that allow people to post free ads of things that they are selling or even giving away for free. Checking these sites for some fireplace supplies is a great way to get started and you never know what kind of luck you will have. Just keep your eyes open and your imagination running and you could end up with some great deals.

There is no doubt about it, when it comes to fireplace safety, fireplace screens rank on the top of the list. It is important for everyone and every pet in the household to understand that they must stay away from the fireplace while it is burning and even for a while afterwards. This is because the hot ashes are hot enough to still cause some serious burns on people. Make sure that young children fully understand the dangers so that they can be safe from fire at home and at other places.

To make sure that everyone is safe, it is important to make sure that all of the right tools are in place and the fireplace screens are up and stable. This is to protect the family and maybe even your personal belongings so it is important to really take time everyday to check the fireplace screens. It is not enough to leave them alone once you have placed them up because over time they can move or be adjusted in ways that are not truly safe for everyone. This is true no matter which type of fireplace screens you end up going with.

Buying Screens

When heading out to buy fireplace screens, it is important to know what size you truly need to cover the fireplace. If the fireplace screens are not the right size, it will not protect the way it should and it will also look out of place. If you want an older looking screen or something used that has history with it that is fine as long as you really inspect the framework and that it is still in good working condition. If it seems too worn out, then you need to look somewhere else, no matter how pretty it is.

For something that is new, just head out to your local home improvement store, as they will have a few to pick from. Again, you are still going to need the size your fireplace requires because not all fireplaces are the same size. If you really do not like the selection you are finding there, you can always turn to auction sites or web stores for your purchase of fireplace screens although you will be stuck paying for shipping fees. But if it is something that you are going to have for a long time, you do want to make sure it is something you like so the shipping fees may be well worth it.

With so many people starting to take advantage of what fireplaces have to offer, it is no wonder that more and more fireplace designs are hitting the market. After all, we are people who love to have options and the more options there are the happier we are. People tend to like a lot of choices when it comes to fireplace designs. It gives them a feeling like they have a little more control over what style of work is coming into their home. It also means that they have a greater chance of not getting the same one as everyone else on the block.

There are many different types of materials being used in the fireplace designs as well. Some are all brick, or all wood, while some are a mix of both. There is also a lot of tile and slate being used now in the different fireplace designs. Now once you have figured out all of the different materials that can be used, we can start to filter through the many different styles each type of material can be transformed into. Of course, I am not sure anyone could really list and describe all of the fireplace designs out there, but that is a good thing.

Pre-Designed Or Do It Yourself

There is a lot to say about selecting one of the many upon many fireplace designs that are pre-made. With all that is available, you are most likely not going to pick out the same exact design that your neighbor has. But then again, for those who feel bad luck always runs on their side, they may want to build and do some fireplace designs all on their own. This is the best and only way to be completely sure that no one else will have what your fireplace has.

When trying to determine how to go about doing your own fireplace designs, it is important to sketch it out first as this is much better then just starting a project and winging it. You may find that you keep scratching out ideas and redoing them. While this may be irritating to you, you will see that it is actually good because you will be able to end with something that you really like and put a lot of hard work into. Just give it a try and start drawing up some ideas because if you never come up with something you like, you can always pick out something already made.

Have you ever had one of those days? You know the kind I mean. You make your way across town in a whipping wind that throws freezing rain in your face with every step you take. By the time you arrive home, your umbrella has been turned inside out, your hair is soaked, and your raincoat is sopping wet.

When you step inside your home, wouldn’t it be nice to push a button and light a cheery gas fire, glowing behind a copper fireplace screen? Let the fireplace warm up while you get out of those wet clothes and pour yourself a nice glass of red wine, or maybe put the kettle on for a cup of tea.

Copper Fireplace Screen For A Warm Interior

There is no warmer toned metal than copper. Shiny, gold brass tone fireplace screens look old fashioned, as their popularity peaked in the 1970s. Flat black fireplace screens have a fresher look, but they also look cold, and make the fireplace, when it is not in use, look like even more of a black box than it already is.

A copper fireplace screen, though, gives your interior a fresh, updated look that is also warm and welcoming. Copper is a natural metal. As such, it is a “hot” material among interior designers, as the most popular finish surfaces in interior designs today are natural surfaces, like stone, wood, iron, and copper.

Copper can be treated to retain its warm color, or it can be allowed to take on a patina of turquoise as it ages naturally.

Three Styles Of Copper Fireplace Screens

There are three basic styles of fireplace screens, and copper is one finish that is available for all three. The first type of screen attaches to the fireplace insert of a wood burning fireplace. Often this screen can be used interchangeably with hinged doors that open and close. The main advantage of this type of copper fireplace screen is that it does not take up any space on the hearth.

The second basic style of fireplace screen is a three-piece screen, usually consisting of a large center piece with smaller “wings” on either side. Often two different tones of metal are used, one for the frame and another for the mesh screen inside the frame. The primary advantage of this type of copper fireplace screen is its versatility. It looks good against many sizes of fireplace openings, without looking too big or too small. With all the different points of contact on the hearth, it can be easily adjusted to accommodate an uneven surface. Finally, this type of screen can be adjusted until it seems secure, making it unlikely to fall over.

The last style of fireplace screen is a fixed, freestanding screen with attached legs. The entire screen must be lifted out of the way to get to the fire. Recent innovations have made all this lifting unnecessary, as many of these screens now include doors in the screen itself, so ashes can be emptied and logs added without moving the copper fireplace screen.

Do you have a corner in your home that would be perfect for a corner fireplace? Whether a fireplace is installed on an inside corner or an outside corner, a corner fireplace adds drama to your interior design. A corner fireplace automatically makes a room asymmetrical; asymmetrical rooms are known for generating excitement and a sense of the unusual.

If you have an L-shaped living-dining area, you have the perfect outside corner for a fireplace. Imagine a two-sided fireplace where one side faced your living room and the other side faced your dining room. Only luxury dining rooms have fireplaces; yet a corner fireplace is a great and easy way to get two fireplaces for the price of one.

Surround Material

Homeowners today have more choices for fireplace surrounds than at any other time. Some people prefer the timeless, formal look of polished stone, while others like the rustic appeal of natural slate, limestone, or travertine. Custom ceramic tile opens up endless possibilities in virtually unlimited colors and pattern combinations. And the old favorite, brick, is still as sought after today as it has been through the decades.

The Mantel

Having a corner fireplace gives you a unique opportunity to design a wraparound corner mantel. A mantel of wood set on a stone or brick surround is one of the classic looks that never goes out of style.

Some of the most popular corner fireplaces on the market today are also some of the highest priced. Paying a few more dollars gets you a lot more in quality so it is a great value. Some of the top selling models are detailed below.

Cheryl Corner Fireplace - Golden Oak

Add instant radiance and classic warmth with this elegant corner fireplace, made of birch in golden oak and stain finished. Always in the top ratings for customer satisfaction, Corner Fireplace Magazine recently rated this company 1.

Linda Ventless Corner Fireplace

This ventless decorative fireplace is made of solid birch and has a wonderful arch design. It also includes a metal firebox, bag of faux coal cinder, screen kit, and cement log.

Richard Fireplace Corner Unit

Transform any corner of a room with this solid wood fireplace, designed with finely crafted pillars and a fireplace that includes a wide center panel. This beautiful, vent-free fireplace lets you add a fireplace to any room. It burns without creating an odor or smoke. Each fireplace includes a hand painted, realistic-looking log, steel firebox, and two cans of gel fuel.

All over the country there are many families that love to gather outdoors on a cool summer night and sit around a nice outdoor fireplace. This is almost a tradition in many families as ghost stories are told, hot dogs and marshmallows are roasted, and hands are warmed. This is the same stuff that takes place in many backyards and campgrounds and it is no different around a Colorado outdoor fireplace. There are many reasons people gather around a Colorado outdoor fireplace but in the end, they all do it for the love of the fire.

Just be careful though because depending on where you live exactly, your Colorado outdoor fireplace may have some restrictions on it. In some areas, a Colorado outdoor fireplace can only be a certain size and only burn on certain days. In some other places, the Colorado outdoor fireplace can only burn up until a certain hour of the night so there is no chance for an all night campfire. Just make sure that you check the different laws in the area where you will be building or burning, as you do not want any trouble with the law, which could result in some pretty big fines.

Building The Fireplace

When you start thinking about building a Colorado outdoor fireplace, you first want to make sure that you are checking with the local rules and restrictions. This is because some places only allow an outdoor fireplace in Colorado to be a certain height and width. You do not want to go through all of the expense and hard work of putting your fireplace together only to be told that it is illegal. Double check what is and what is not allowed before you begin your building project. It is always better to be on the safe side than to regret your decisions later.

Once you start to build your Colorado outdoor fireplace, you may find that you need a little bit of help from friends or family. This is to be expected because it really is a lot of hard work. Make sure that you draw out all of your design plans first so that your finished product looks amazing. There are a lot of outdoor fireplace designs or blueprints on the Internet if you look hard enough. These designs will help make sure that your fireplace is something that you can be proud of in the end and enjoy for many years to come.

There are so many homes that are being built with fireplaces now because just about everyone feels that they make a great addition in a home. So many people that purchase older homes are finding that they kind of wish their home already had brick fireplaces in it. While they can always build one that is wood burning, it is a big mess and extremely costly. Something that is a little more affordable is a gas or electric fireplace.

When it comes to wanting to keep warm or to add a little comfort to your living room or bedroom, wood burning fireplaces are an excellent addition. There are many different reasons people use wood burning fireplaces but in the end, they provide everyone with warmth and a cozy spot to curl up in front of. With the price of gas heat climbing through the roof, it is no wonder that so many people are starting to turn to their wood burning fireplaces more than anything else.

And for those who do not have one, they are thinking about what it would take to get one installed. Wood burning fireplaces are an excellent way to save on money and you remain in complete control. Even though with gas heat you can control the temperature, you can do nothing about what you are being charged and sometimes you could face being shut off if you are short on cash. That would never happen with wood burning fireplaces, as all you need is wood, which is something that most people stock up on before winter hits.

Safety Concerns

As with any type of heat source, there are a few safety concerns that should be addressed before you light the fire. No matter what, you need to make sure that you have the proper tools needed to run wood burning fireplaces. Also, you want to make sure that your fireplace is properly vented so that you do not get poisoned from the smoke. If you have small animals or children in the home, you need to make sure that they are properly taught to stay away from the fire at all times. One trip and fall and you could be looking at head to toe burns and this is something that should never have to happen to a child.

If you do not feel that you can trust the children or even the animals to stay away from the fire, for their safety and the safety of the home, you need to use your typical gas or electric heat during the day. Once they are asleep or in their rooms for the night, you can light the fire for additional heat. Just make sure that you are never falling asleep with it still burning as this could result in a terrible situation. Even though there is a lot to be careful of when it comes to wood burning fireplaces, they are a wonderful thing to have inside a home whether you use them all the time or in case of an emergency.

The cold seasons are already coming and it only means that we would have to pack loads and loads of chopped woods to help us feel the warmth that we need during these times. And to help us get through the fall and winter seasons, we could always rely on our fireplaces to help us feel warm and cozy while we just stay at home, cuddling with the one that we love while sipping hot chocolate or watching television.

And when it comes to watching television, one of the latest trends is the LCD TV which is very nice if we would place them on our living room and we may wonder to ourselves, “can I put a TV over a fireplace?” because it sure would look elegant and very convenient. Here are some of the major concerns and answers to the question if you can put a TV over a fireplace and the safety issues that are involved with it.

Forget It

If you are thinking of the question, “can I put a TV over a fireplace?” one of the many issues that would be raised are the safety concerns because not only it could permanently disrupt your new LCD TV, but the heat and smoke could discolor it and the plastic housing. Aside from that, if you are thinking of, “can I put a TV over a fireplace?” you would realize that putting them on such a great height would only tire your neck as it is a very uncomfortable height and too high for comfortable TV viewing.

Plus, thinking of putting a your TV over a fireplace would require major adjustments to your electrical wiring because of course, you would want the wires to be hidden when you display it on the wall, right? You would need to hire a professional in order for you to change and make adjustments if you think of putting it on the wall over your fireplace.

Instead of thinking, “can I put a TV over a fireplace?” what you may want to do is opt for a more realistic and safer option like buying a new TV stand that could meet your taste. It would also be great if you would find a new TV stand that could complement the current style of your home so forget about putting it over a fireplace and instead, just opt for the safer and less stressful location by just buying a TV stand.

There are few things more inviting than a crackling fire on a cold, winter evening. This is clearly why fireplaces have always been, and continue to be, a much sought after commodity in many homes. However, a traditional, wood-burning fireplace is limited by the need for a chimney and hearth, and can be time consuming to maintain. Gas fireplaces have become popular in recent years, but these can emit an odor, get expensive to run and also require maintenance. So what is the solution? An electric fireplace can offer the same ambiance as the wood-burning and gas counterparts, but without the mess and safety hazards.

Check out the Benefits

There are many benefits in opting for an electric fireplace for your home or office. The first is versatility. An electric fireplace can go anywhere in your home, from the bare corner of the family room to a centerpiece spot in your bedroom. You don’t need to worry about a chimney or a fireproof hearth to keep your electric flames contained. Second, an electric fireplace is safe, since there is no need to worry about flames leaping to your carpet or burning your kids and pets. You don’t need to concern yourself with maintenance either, like you do with other types of fireplaces. Finally, there are so many choices in electric fireplaces today that you are certain to find one to coordinate beautifully with the rest of your home décor.

Feel the Heat

If you are under the false impression that electric fireplaces are incapable of emitting any heat, think again. While some of the models are designed for show rather than function, many electric fireplaces can indeed allow you to feel the heat. And with that warmth, you don’t need to worry about fumes since the heat is coming directly from an electric source. Some models will even come with a means of adjusting the heating element to give you the perfectly comfortable temperature in any room. In fact, if you have a certain room in your home that just never seems to warm up sufficiently when the cold weather hits, perhaps an electric fireplace will be the stylish warming element that your space is lacking.

Electric fireplaces can also be less expensive to purchase, install and run. There are many great reasons to check out your options in electric fireplaces. Why not head to your local retailer or the Internet to see if one of these fireplaces is in your future? Stay toasty.

For many people searching for a home, a fireplace is one of the items that they put on the top of their desired list. Adding one to a home can also be a smart investment, not only do they look good, but also when going to resell a home it can certainly be an added attraction.

The Purpose

Initially, a fireplace was the center of a home for several reasons. It is not hard to picture the practical aspects of a fireplace that include heating the home and being able to cook. As time went on, and other ways to heat and cook food were created, the fireplace then took on the purpose of ornamental value.

The ornamental value included dressing up a room with spectacular mantels and stonework and having a cozy place for company to relax by. For many homes, a fireplace was an added extra but not really seen as energy efficient to heat a home.

Today that view has changed. Not only can it be a beautiful centerpiece to a home it can also be created to help heat a home, so many companies are finding ways to increase the energy efficiency of fireplaces.

Tips For Energy Efficiency

When looking at homes with fireplaces, or deciding to add one to your home, look into ways to make it pay for itself. There are several ideas that can help consumers create not only a lovely hearth, but also one that can assist in heating the home.

One tip when looking into a fireplace is getting glass doors. Many of the glass doors that are manufactured today are made to keep the heat in, even after the fire has long gone out. Getting a fan that can then blow the heat into the room is a great idea in moving that heat around and keeping an area warm. Make sure the chimney is insulated, so that you are not loosing heat.

Some fireplaces are free standing and do not need to be built into a home. These freestanding woodstoves are extremely energy efficient and are built to heat up. Check with companies that make this type of woodstoves in order to determine where in a home they can safely be placed, and what needs to be done to vent them.

A fireplace is an investment that is worth the time to check into. There are many ideas that can be used in all kinds of homes in regards to making and keeping them useful.
